I have around $3000 in my 1942 H right now and it needs some sheet metal repaired and paint yet. I managed to get a set of tires for it free, so that cost isn't figured in. For me it took 2 tractors to make one, and I still had to order some parts. If that M has sat out with the exhaust uncovered (or even just a rain cap) you can be the engine will need plenty of work. If you want to do a correct restoration I recommend the book "Farmall Letter Series Tractors" by Guy Fay. It is packed with useful information. Do a search on amazon.com or bn.com for it. The Super kit for an M consists of bigger sleeves and pistons to increase the bore of the engine. An M came with a 248 cubic inch engine, the larger bore brings that up to 264 cubic inches. Remember that the actual Super M had many changes in the engine and transmission to handle the increased power. A regular M will stand up to more power than the 264 can put out anyway though. Expect to spend plenty of time restoring, I finished all the mechanicals on mine in 4 months, then it had to be used for haying so the paint has to wait until next year. If you want to to a lot of the work yourself in spare time, figure at least a year or two to get done. And for goodness sake, come back everytime you do something with it and tell us about it! Digital cameras are great when doing restorations because we love to see every step of the way!!
