I'd just buy a new ring gear instead of turning the old one. Sure, the engine stops in the same place every time, but by replacing the ring gear, you know you don't have to split it again, and you know you've got it fixed for another 60 years. A ring gear is not an expensive part, either. You probably can't unbolt the flywheel and turn it 90 degrees, because it probably has a locating dowel which needs to line up with a hole in the crankshaft.
