Either increases engine wear even when not needed for starting. Either is a good last resort if you get caught away from plug in. I have a friend, a logging contractor, several machines miles from home or electricity. He leaves a diesel generator running in bush over night with every machine pluged in. There is a V12 Cummins in the lot. He used to use quick couplers on his pickup heater hoses to warm up coolant in machine, said it worked fine with one machine. Doing several machines started to have negative on pickup engine. 3 and 4 shots of cold coolant every morning, most of them 3 times size of pickup cooling system.
