I found this post facinating. What is a dead blow hammer? My experience: Had an O6 stuck motor. Soaked for 4 years and finally removed the head and pan and could remove the connecting rod caps on two pistons (other two were up in the motor). I put a piece of green treated lumber about 1 inch square (a piece of deck railing) up inside the piston and put a hydraulic jack under and jacked until the front wheels were partially up. Came back a few days later and found the sleeve up about 1/2 inch. Jacked more and the sleeve came out. Then removed the other one with the connecting rod loose, but the engine was still stuck. I put a jack under one side of the crankshaft and put pressure on, then released that and jacked the other side of the crankshaft. I could feel it move just a little, kept alternating pressure and it poppped loose. When those sleeves came out, the pistons was still stuck inside. Took both of them to the burning barrel, put diesel in and ligth the fire. After cooling, I could knock them out with a block of wood. I didn't use the old parts, put a new set of sleeves and pistons in. But that's where my progress ended for now. I may have been lucky not to damage the cs when I put pressure on it.

I have a super A that had been redone. Didn't start it often enough and it is now stuck. Plan to use the same approach, but am concerned about damaging the crankshaft. Will appreciate any thoughts on this. Thanks. Dale
