Diesel Don, The fore and aft center of gravity can be easily calculated, if the separate weight on each wheel is known. Height of CG would be more difficult, but must be close to crankshaft height. This is the method I learned as a pilot. Each weight is entered as a moment arm from an arbitrary datum plane at a known distance. (Weight times distance) Then the total weight moment arm is calculated from the same datum, and the result is the location of the CG. I haven't done it, but I would expect it to be farther forward...except for a notorious rear flipping killer like a Fordson. Naturally the side to side CG of most tricycles would be very close to the center line. I have thought of an easy method to determine the critical angle by direct measurement, but I haven't used it. It involves jacking the tractor (restrained from actually upsetting, of course) until it is exactly balanced on one rear wheel and whichever front end it has, and then simply measuring the angle...Of the platform in the case of an M. Anyone want to try it and report the result? I think the information would be useful. It could be used to compare the safety of different wheel spacings. George Willer

Since this can be extremely difficult, you may want to fabricate the item or purchase a modern replacement temporarily, but eventually, you s
