The slotted nut you describe is a coupling to the hydraulic pump from the lower shaft in the transmission. This coupling comes off by unscrewing in the CCW direction. I used a car jack handle to get this off on an H. Behing it is a seal and brg as you have noticed. The leak probably means two things: the seal is bad and/or the seal and brg are bad. You should be able to remove all from the underneath side of the tractor. I would suggest replacing the seal, brg, and gasket upon reassembly. Use gasket compound on the new gasket or it will leak again later! Good luck.
