Mitch, I would not use a hammer. The manifold nipple (pipe) could get broken at the threads at the ex manifold. I wuold heat it and use a big pipe wrench and again, be sure not to pull that manifold nipple to either side breaking it. apply the force to turn the muffler off the nipple. Been there done that. It is pretty hard to find that piece of pipe in the right size and thread. Learn from MY mistake. Good luck.
