I have stopped leaks at the fuel tank by removing the bowl, letting some good pipe dope set up on the threads, and then carefully tightening it back up. For leaks at the valve, I make new packing out of thick paper type gasket material, punching the correct sized "o's" with a gasket punch. This has always worked for me.
