Hey Bart - It doesn't matter where the crank is when you pull the front cover off. However before you remove the hydraulic pump, distributor, cam gear, etc, I highly recommend you set the crank to #1 TDC firing (NOT exhaust), and not disturb it until all the moving parts have been reinstalled. Also taking notes, making sketches and taking photos as you take stuff apart is good advice! I use a cheap (1 meg) digital camera and take LOTS of photos as I tear stuff down. Has saved me much time and headache on several occasions the past couple of years. Good luck!! ...Bob M
