Changing SM cam gear

I have to change the cam gear which drives the live power hyd pump because of some chipped teeth.Was that way when I bought the tractor. I know Bob M. has done this a few times. My question is, where should I crank the engine to before I take the front cover off, or does it make a difference? I've never been inside the front end,(or any other internal parts for that matter and would appreciate any advice). Thanks for any help. Hey The Red, How have you been?
