While out helping my buddy work on his 656 today I noticed an engine sitting in the weeds and decided to investigate. It turns out to be a model P-30 Power Unit. It looks to be in pretty rough shape having sit out for untold years in the woods uncovered. The only thing that I can see that is missing is the hood and the gas tank. The magneto is on the unit but I am assuming that it is bad from sitting out, it is an F4 Mag. From looking at my IH book all I can find on it is that the engine is the same as that used in the F,W, and I 30 tractors. I would assume that they were made during the same time frame as the tractors were with the possible exception that maybe they were made a few years longer or until parts stock was used up. My questions are, 1) were they only made during the same time frame as the tractors or did they overlap tractor production in the begining or the end. 2)Assuming that it is froze up anbody got a clue as to an aproximate value of the unit. I dont think he is willing to sell it just yet, but he did tell me that in the near future he was going to try to get it going, and if he couldnt he was going to take it to the scrap man. I CANNOT let that happen to piece of IH history that you dont see to many of anymore. I am sure if I can get it I can make it work again. Thanks in advance for any info.

To the newcomer that wants to get out and use the machine for field work, you may have already hit a major roadblock. That is the dreaded "proprietary hitch". With the exception of the
