I have a SBM, don't know if it is different, but:
the upper fitting is for the bearings of the pulley,
the lower fitting is for the waterpump axle. In my case I have replaced the pulley bearings with closed bearings (cannot be greased). If I should use the upper fitting, I'd damage the bearings very bad!
Wonder why your fitting wears a cap...
