You will be destroying a perfectly good axle. If you have 100 inch axles (tread width), they are rarer than the shorter ones. You will be decreasing the value of your tractor if you do so, even if they are the normal width. The tractor will still fit in your garage.

As I grew older (7), it was the thrill of my day to ride or drive on the tractor. My Papaw had a 1954 IH Super A that he bought to replace a Cub.
