Murray, I shortened the axles on the 48 C I am working on just a couple of weeks ago.I did this just to clean up the mess someone had made with a torch.I already had the rims and tires off of the wheels so all I had to do was put my bandsaw on one side and the stand for it on the other,make the cut and repeat process on other side. I only have an old 4 inch Duracraft bandsaw, and it worked great. The axles were of softer matterial than alot of things I cut.I cut them at 16.5 inches past the seal,which is close to standard,so I was told,after I drilled the center point nobody will be able to tell it isn't original.
