I am in also in the process of restoring a 46 A. I removed the oil pan last week and noticed a few drops of antifreeze on the bottom of the crank shaft and piston rod below number 3 cylinder. I pulled the head and found where antifreeze had slowly been leaking by the head gasket and getting into the number 3 cylinder. There was some rust in the piston sleave and valve head in the 3rd cylinder. I figure antifreeze was leaking into the cylinder above the piston, seeping by the piston rings and then dripping onto the crank shaft.
