I just swapped a engine in a 89 chevy berreta with one from the junk yard. I started it up this weekend and the valve covers leaked. so I took the time to pull the covers to put new gaskets in. well the top of the head is just caked up with oil chunks and gunk. I was not happy to see this. so I cleaned them up best I could put it back together. well the rear one still leaks. I think I have a few plugged oil ports in the head. Is there any oil cleaner or something to add to the oil to clean this gunk out? Or should I bight the bullet and pull the engine back out have the heads hot tanked and pull the oil pan and clean the gunk out of that? what do you guys think? Or is this engine a time bomb? thanks Chad
