Charlyn used to build a self contained unit that mounted and drove from the PTO. That would be my choice for a "correct" hydraulic unit for a tractor that never had hydraulics. I have seen a belly pump out of an M mounted on a W30 (outside the frame) and driven by a sproket and chain drive mounted on the pulley shaft. Yes these are not live. There is always the trip rope option.
