Just take your time and the shaft will find it's way home. You have to aim carefully; you can't hurt anything as long as the gasket isn't damaged.
The PTO shaft has a 1/2" dia. extension on the end of the shaft that slips into a hole in the end of the transmission mainshaft.
The seal can be replaced by removing just the end housing of the PTO .
Carefully clean the splines on the outer end of the PTO shaft and file off any sharp edges BEFORE installing the new seal. A little grease helps to slip the seal and housing into place.
