Farmall 140 electrical a puzzle

Two weeks ago I brought home a Farmall 140, I considered to be a 6 volt generator system, and as such I assumed it would be positive ground. When I posted on this matter you did agree. The serial is 22157 which makes it the latter half of 1963. This tractor does not show any charge on ampmeter. The battery is dead, not even enough juice to light test light. The tractor sat outside in some minus 20 C weather and battery did not freeze up. If I hook up my Super A 6 volt, with booster cables 140 will not turn over very fast nor will it start. While the SA is hooked on ampmeter will show some charge. If I hook my 12 volt 130 to the cables 140 is going in about 3-4 turns of starter. 130 also shows heavy charge on on own as well as 140 ampmeter. When I take cables off 140 continues to run showing no charge. I did try to polarize regulator. The coil is 6 volt. I am starting to believe this tractor is 12 volt. This tractor has same grill as the larger 04 and 06 series tractors Just trying to decide whether problem is battery, regulator, generator and or has some one put on the wrong coil. I always thought 140s were not changed to 12 volt until late 60s or early 70. Am I wrong? Any opinions on what I have here 6 or 12 volt tractor? Was thinking of putting battery on charger, but do I go with 6 or 12 volt charge? Volt meter will show 12 volt while 130 is hooked on and nothing when tractor is running by itself. Where do I start on this one?
