The mag should have an impulse if I am not mistaken. That is what clicks when you turn engine over. It works off of rpm (note that it quits clicking when tractor reaches a certain rpm). Is what this does is there is a catch in the mag. The engine should be timed before top dead center. This catch in the mag actually stops the mag from turning for real small amount of time and then it trips making the click sound and releases spark. This time delay moves the spark from being delivered to engine from before top dead center to after top dead center making start up much easier. That is how the impulse works. (Note that the engine must be timed with the impulse not working.) I am not sure how to inactivecate the impulse on an M. If you timed engine with impulse working then your timing is probably off. Other than the impulse I would say that the mag is unaffected by rpm.
