What do you mean by backwards? The order should be 1342. The order of 3421, 4213, and 2134 would not be backwards but would most likely be that the number 1 hole on the distributor cap is timed to another piston other than number one. Now then, 2431, 4312, 3124, and 1243 would be backwards. Only two ways for this two happen. Possibly has wrong cam shaft. A cam shaft that is opposite two original would change your timing. For this to happen the lobes on the cam for 1 and 4 and the lobes for 2 and 3 have two be switched. If this is the case your distributor would function as original but your wire would go to different cylinder. The other senerio is that the distributor itself is being run opposite direction. This would mean that the distributor that is on there is not original and probably designed to be on a different tractor.
