Greg, sounds like maybe you have gotten confused as to the polarity of the charger/battery and the system on the tractor. Very few 12 volt systems are positive ground as most conversions are from automotive systems. Rethink what you did and question if you had the battery connected to the charger + to + and - to -. If your tractor has an alternator I would wager that it is a Neg. ground now that it is 12 volts and was Pos. ground when it was 6 volts. If you have gotten the battery charged in reverse you will have to fully discharge it (connect a headlight bulb to the terminals) then recharge it in the correct polarity.
