The corks were placed in the holes at the factory to keep the holes clean so implements that mounted using these holes would have clean threads for the bolts. Around here, hole bees fill the ends of the holes with their eggs inside. When the eggs hatch, the larvae make a hole in the white covering and crawl or fly away to find food. Any hole on any of my tractors that has an empty hole has a hole bee cover over it now, usually with a small hole in it. If I wanted to use these holes now, I would have to clean them out and chase the threads with a tap (after I bought the tap).
