I believe if you check in archive section there is a complete description of the conversion by Bob M. Think it also covers a Magneto. I think it should be easier with a magneto since you don't have to worry about a resister ahead of the coil or an inline resister or light to make it so it will shut off. I have never used the 1 wire type. Have converted a SMTA and JD430 to 12 volts but always got an alternator from the wrecking yard. Only advantage I can see is 1 wire.
