I'm sure that the axle is similar to the one on my C. The dead space should not have anything in it. The seal on the outer end of the axle keeps the grease from the grease zerk in while the inner seal retains the grease from the rear-end. I'm guessing that Farmall did it this way because it would have been difficult to maintain the rear-end grease level high enough to keep the outer end of the axle lubricated on side hills. The axle between the inner and outer seals does not rub on anything so no need to lubricate.
