Gordon - If you want to use a toggle, the easiest is to use a 3-position, DPDT (double pole double throw) switch. Properly wired you can have it so when the toggle is "up" you have front lights only, "down" would have both front and rear light. Center position will provide off. Radio Shack will have a 3-position DPDT switch - make sure to get one rated for at least 15 amps. Another option is to buy a 3-position, knob type pull switch. For what you want you'd wire the headlights to the switch's "tail light" terminal, and the rear work light to the "headlight" terminal. In operation, pulling the switch out to the first notch would give headlights only, and pulling it all the way would give both head and rear lights. Any auto parts place will have this type of switch. A suggestion: Provide some sort of rear light (red or flashing amber) in the "headlight only" mode. Around here it is illegal to run a tractor on the road at night without one of the above showing to the rear - and it's just common sense as well. If you need a wiring diagram for either of the above, post back and I'll shoot you a sketch. ...Bob M

Experimentation, from the most complex assembly to the most simple and mundane component, is as an integral a part of any farm tractor's development
