use Woods belts. cost a little/lot more up front, however will last without turning, rolling, twisting , etc to ruin. I tried Bates belts(30 to 40 min) on my 76 with Woods mower for a kubota(wrong direction spindle rotation) would not work due to extra twist to get proper rotation. Woods belts last longer first one lasted over 15 years. Then 3 Bates belts 30 to 40 min apiece, followed with Woods 1 to 3 years with my son driving it. Only break now in heavy grass with fast clutch action or when used in orchard mowing small trees, briars, etc. Now using 42 Woods to maintain rough ground works better.
