Never thought about the plug versus brass drain. Now that you mention it I myself have seen both. I never thought of it meaning a difference. I also forgot about the oil pet cocks. I know what you meant, but I think the proper procedure was to drain to lower petcock and refill with oil to the top petcock every morning before operation. (letting it sit overnight allowed the oil to settle to the bottom and thus the unburnt fuel would remain at the top).
