Here's just another suggestion. My M was converted before I got it and all they did was mounted the old generator "c" shaped bracket so the legs pointed "up". Then they bolted the Delco model 10-S1 alternator to the front leg of the bracket so the alternator sits above and forward of the leg. A tensioner bar was fabricated from 1/4" bar stock with one end bolted to upper thermostat housing. Other end was drilled and filed out to form a "slot" for adjusting tension on the alt. belt. They might have gone to a shorter belt to keep the alt. as far toward the valve cover as possible but it allows the undamaged hood to fit over it. The belt runs true in both pulleys as well.
