over on one of the CAT boards I visit, the guys recommend putting a wrench on the nut right after you do the welding, and work the nut back and forth a very small amount. This will then either break the stud/bolt free if it is not stuck real bad, or it will work-harden your weld, so that the nut will be less apt to snap off when you are really cranking down on it later.
