Merlin, Sounds to me like the o-rings in either the pump or cylinder (or both) are tired after 48 years. Try replacing the cylinder o-rings first as they are probably easier to do. Then if the problem isn't fixed, do the pump. The warm oil leaks past the worn seals easier, that's why it works cold. The total cost to do both the cylinder and pump shouldn't exceed $50, a lot cheaper than a new tractor. Phil
