Rim swap - will they interchange?

My Farmall M came with one 13.6x38 and one 12.4x38 when I bought it. The gears constantly whine while travelling straight. I assume this is a differential compensating for the difference in tire circumference. I have an opportunity to swap the 12.4 tire and rim for a 13.6. Please don't shoot!!! Would a jd rim be a direct swap? or do I have to break both rims down to swap the tires? I would repaint it.
