IH464 / D179 inframe, is rear main bearing accessible?

Guys,
Just started on an inframe overhaul on my 464 diesel. I dropped the pan and it appears there is no way to get to the rear main cap. There is a 6 inch long piece of iron in the way that fits into the rear of the block. Best I can tell it's bolted in from behind through the aluminum rear plate.

So....anyway to service the rear main without spliting the tractor?
