I don't think you need to prime pump. Just prelube engine parts when you put it together, make sure you have proper amount of oil in it before starting, and make sure you have oil pressure immediately following initial start up. May consider priming the pump if it is a new pump. Do a plastiguage check on the bearings if you think they are to tight. That will tell you if they have the proper clearance. Ussually bearings will only go one way. Ussually they have a ridge on the backside of bearing that fits into a slot on the rod/rod cap. Not sure if the F-20 has this, but the main thing is that the bearing is unable to spin. F-20's had shimes on the rod caps. These were to allow for adjustments for bearing clearance (could be taken out or added). I would double check on that bearing to see if it is in correctly, might be the reason that it is to tight. Also, without doing a plastiguage check you most certainly would want to put those rod cap shimes in exactly the way they was (presuming you are using the old bearings). Plastiguage check would be a good idea, but would be a must if you are putting in new bearings. I hope this clears things up for you a little. Sorry about not remembering exactly how the bearing can go, I should know but it has been years since I had my rod caps off of my 20. Also, one more thing. Those rod caps are dippers, so make sure it gets put on the right way. If opposite of the right way the rod bearing won't get any oil.
