Why it started I don't know. Bare wires everywhere to include the battery cable. Hooked a 6 volt battery up to it, which we couldn't tighten because a piece was missing out of the battery clamp. Hit the starter and it fired right up. Oil pressure went right up to 80#s. Cold weather no doubt helped the high reading. Loaded it up and brought it home. Unloaded it a half mile from the house and started down the lane. All the gears work. Shifts very smoothly. I kept stopping so I could start out in each gear. No problem. No smoke, white, black or blue. Did get a little black smoke when it first started and then it went away. Governor works great. Engine runs as smooth as silk. Once home I let it run awhile to warm it up good, then drained the oil. Couldn't notice anything but oil coming out, but it was very black. I felt it and it was still slippery, but needed to be changed. Stuck my finger in the drain hole and couldn't feel any chunks of anything there. Once I change and clean the oil and air filters, and drop the oil pan to clean it out and look at the bottom end, I'll replace all of the other fluids. Water in the radiator looks clean with no signs of rust. When it ran out of gas I peeked into the tank. Nice shinny bottom with no crud. That's all I could see before my match went out:-) Anyway, it is in a lot better shape than I had hoped for and so far am very pleased. Of course once it's put under load I may be in for a surprise, but so far so good. Fred KS
