Ed, 2 summers ago, I redid 1. We done it at my friends auto repair shop. He charged me 300.00 for help and space. It was there 2 weeks. We did everything that you said, except we turned the crank. I only honed the cylinders as they miked out fine. I spent 2200.00 total on parts and repair. The head was a big part of that and the purchase of a new carb. I had the unleaded gas valves installed as well. I never 1/2 do anything. I figure its better to spend more now than do it over. On the cylinders, I have 1 that apparently does not stay sealed. As on occassion , it will use a quart of oil. I have been told that the 30 wt oil will not properly seat / seal the rings. So if I dont sell it before summer I am going to try a different grade of oil. The oil use is not bad because I use it to run a roto tiller. And I use it rather extensively . Hope this helps. Feel free to email if you have questions or run into problems. maybe I can help. Will gladly do so.
