You say you have installed a new switch. Hopefully, this switch has an accesory position on the back of it. If so, hook ONLY your battery wire to the Bat post (after it travels through your ammeter,of course), hook your ignition wire to the ignition post and hook all other wires, including your alternator wire to the accesory post. This way, EVERYTHING is disconnected when the switch isoff. This also makes it more safe at night when no one is around when them meeces chew through a wire as they love to do on vinyl coated wires.
