I as well and people in my employ probably logged close to 100,000 hours of tractor time with no lost time accidents. I have dismissed employees for lack of common sence. How many of you have one of those old IH manuals with all the little safety cartoons. Every one of them were about common sence. Two problem areas I see as I get older. 1. People in general have a very cavalier attitude towards safety. This has steadily been getting worse in past 25 years. I talked with a businessman less than a week ago, who is ceasing operations just because of this cavalier attitude. 2. Safety equipment such as rops, boots, hardhats, etc. have given people a false sence of security, in that they believe, if used they can't get hurt. All one must do is look at auto industry, 58 Ford or Chevy was all a person with common sence needed. I can't help but believe these two contribute to one another.
