I am looking at buying a 1982 5288,I worked on a farm for the past 15 years that ran only deere's,but I'm now striking off on my own, there are several 5288's in my area, and they sell for exactly half the price of the deere's when compared year/year hr/hr and hp/hp. I have heard that they are reliable power, but had some glich's,one thing I heard is that the early models (the ones with the short hyd control levers?)had hi-lo clutch pak trouble,as well as a counter shaft problem, but this was remidied by 1982 and then had long hyd controls with the round knobs on top I also heard there was a flywheel problem that needed a update, can anyone shed any light on this? Also did all the 50...52...and 5488 have the same tranny?thanx so much.
