To mount a temperature gauge where there is no engine block access hole I do the folowing. From a auto supply obtain a mechanical temperature gauge with a small bulb and a long capillary tube. Remove the radiator hose at the engine and place the bulb/capillary tube carefully into the hose with the bulb midstream of the coolant flow. If possible I tiewrap the capillary to the engine outlet below where the hose fits. Then I take a dab of silicon sealant and cover the capillary tube at the outlet neck and slide the radiator hose back in place and if you are uneasy about everything sealing with the tube sandwiched between the hose and the engine block outlet use two hose clamps staggering the clamp joints. Works fine and does not leak. On engines with two top and two bottom hoses this installation allows monitoring the temp on each side of the engine because you can install two separate gauges.
