Pulled the engine completely apart. The things you find! I could easily see the rings down in the sleeve, and could easily slide an .008 gage between piston and sleeve. I could have put a bigger feeler gage down but it would have been too rigid to bend around. Book says discard over .003, so I guess the pistons and sleeves are shot. The book also says the piston diameter for MTA non-diesel is 4 inches (unless I am reading it wrong.) Mine measured 4 1/8, which I thought was the correct size. Which is right? By the way, I thought rod bearings had a groove to allow oil into them easier. Mine were smooth. Are they that shot or is this common? Thanks in advance for the info.
