Converting from 6 to 12 Volts (Farmall 400 LP Gas)

I baught a Farmall 400 LP Gas (Propane) a while back and would like to confirm the conversion from 6 to 12 volts was done properly. The tractor runs fine but will not charge the battery. In my manual it states the tractor overall is 6v but the starter on the LP Gas model is 12v. Also, are the points, distributor cap, and rotor common enough to find at an autoparts store? Thanks in advance for the help.
