Hey Pat, I know the feeling about cattle not cooperating. A year ago March we were dehorning 8 heifers, we did this one and after a while we noticed she was still bleeding so we thought we would rope her again and see if we missed pulling a bleeder..well she must have thought the end was near because she bolted and jumped through the barn window, took the sill and sash with her, its a 4 ' jump to the bottom of the window. Well she was gone and I spent just about every Saturday morning looking for her,6 weeks later on a Monday morning I get a call from someone who knew I was missing a calf..Tractor /trailer got her at 3:30 in the AM, she was standing in the middle of #84 highway. Thank God no one was hurt, I got paid for her from my insurance co. and the trucker had about $5000 to the front of his rig which I believe his insurance company covered...after that I decided if that ever happened again I was going to get all my good old boys and hunt down and shoot the beast before it can cause an accident..beef in the freezer is a better alternative than a renegade cattle beast roaming the country side. I could never understand why the insurance company didn't tell me to do that...what if a car load of teens had hit that cattle beast.....paying me to shoot the animal would be a heck of a lot cheaper than million dollar lawsuits. Here's a story that happened a few years ago about a cattle beast at Ilderton sales arena, jumping up into the crowd running across the mezzanine and crashing through a window onto the roof of the sales barn, slid down the roof landed on the back or a Ford Tempo, smashed the rear window out of the car and squashed the trunk in..and made her escape. It took several days but they did round her up with horses. They figured about $3000 in damage..isn't raising cattle just the most rewarding thing you could ever think of???????
