Doug, What did you do when you did the engine job? You must not have replaced the front seal. You are correct in that you basically have to remove everything on the front of the engine. You can replace the seal without taking off the timing gear cover, by prying out the seal, but it is better to remove the timing gear cover. Just below this posting (C113 engine Seal) there is another horror story about the difficulties removing the crankshaft pulley. You need a good puller and either a bearing separator or make something such that you do not pull on the cast iron pulley edges as that will certainly break it as the person below did. I bought a cheap set of bearing separators from Harbor Freight several years ago as the US name brand ones are so expensive. The Chinese ones from Harbor Freight seem to work OK for the times I have used and abused them. Getting the crankshaft pulley back on is another story as you need to get it on without damaging the crankshaft. I heated the pulley up (not too hot as you don't want to damage the new seal) and then drove it on with a big hammer and block of wood. Some crankshafts have a threaded hole in the center, and if so you are in better shape as you can pull it on. Good luck. Roger
