Hugh, yes it is similar to a frost plug on an engine block. It does not hold the hydraulic oil in the resevoir. It is located at 11:00, above the filling plug on both sides of the block. The 2-inch plug is direclty above the filter screen and is just above the rockshaft. It is probably the highest point on the block on both sides. I dk how long IH built them with these plugs. When I went to IH parts store, the newer models only have one plug located at the very top of the hydraulic block which is directly underneath the gas tank which you cannot see. But, in all the books etc. service people have looked at, there is no name or part numbers for these plugs. Don't know what else to tell you.........???
