SMTA Clutch Shaft

Started to tear into the TA today. After pulling out the main clutch throw out bearing assembly, and removing the clutch release sleeve carrier, I pulled out the clutch shaft. Now as I understand it, the shaft should have a separate coupler that (I believe) goes into the PTO shaft. Anyway, I pulled out my clutch shaft and the coupler was stuck fast to the end. Is this right? Shouldn't the shaft and coupler come apart? I believe the coupler should be separate to engage/disengage the seasonal disconnect. Any insight appreciated.
