Maybe I can help.With the engine running see if you hear the knock,if you can push the clutch in and see if it stops.If it does its in the transmission.As far as the rod bearing goes,you can change it from the bottom,but I wouldnt recommend it.You could be chasing problems all day.Do like The Red said first and check your valve clearance first.Thought I had to rebuid a C one time and all it was was a valve out of wack real bad.As far as a flush,I wouldnt do it yet.You can clog up the oil passages and thus lock up the motor.
