my old cub had the same thing happen. i started using, and taking care of, the cub after my dad died. when i went to change to oil in her, the pan oil was jet black, and the filter housing drain would not drain. i got a long screwdriver and put it up in the tube to pull out all that congealed oil, which was the consistancy of grease. i had to give it a good cleaning. the old non-detergent oil had been used for many years which, from what ppl tell me, is what caused that. i used detergent oil in it now, and just keep changing the filter very often.
