Haven't had mine apart in a while, but it SOUNDS like you're talking about part of the metering assembly. I'm not aware of any "locator" pins, and most of the brass parts are machined passages for mixture adjustments. I'd go at it gently with a bit of wire and see if it cleans out. Mud daubers and gasoline varnish plugging vents and metering tubes are the main culprits in non-functional carburators.
