Sounds like a straight A to me also. Your reading of the date code sounds right, block casting number was 6342 for the A/B or 250169 for the Super A (behind the oil filter). The 8638 is from the clutch housing (torque tube) on a straight A, with a starter hole (after SN-54386). Main noticable difference for the Super A was the live hydraulics, but a majority of the tractor changed to get it (you don't just bolt on a pump). Quickly, I can think of at least a different front bolster, engine block, torque tube, gas tank and steering post; plus all the actual hyd components. Even as a straight A, if the tractor looks and runs decent, and has a good woods mower that price sounds fair. Super A's around here (VA) w/o any attachments seem to start at least 2000 and go up from there. Stan(VA).
